Stamford Street and Park Drive

The end of Stamford Street c1914 and 2010. The gate marked the end of Stamford Street. Beyond the gate lies the farm track which was later to become Dominion Road. This led towards the City of Leicester.

A nice rural scene c1950's. St Peters church can be seen in the distance. Towards the right
you can see some of the houses on Stamford St adjacent to it's junction with Pine Road.

Two old postcard views of the now demolished Glenfield County
Primary. A new modern school now stands on the same site.

1950. Dominion Road at the bottom, Park Drive snaking upwards. Manor Farm towards the left.
Almost the same view early 1980's. photo courtesy of Christina Fowler.

The same scene about 100 years apart. Stamford Street looking towards The Square. Coronation Cottage is on the left.

The remains of the blacksmiths smithy are at the end of the path on the right.
The writer of the postcard has added a note: "One of Glenfield's lovely spots"...not any more.

The childhood home on Stamford Street of the celebrated painter Brian Organ who has many works in the National Portrait Gallery. The most famous being Princess Diana 1981.
